What femininity means to us

What femininity means to us

Femininity is often described in very narrow ways.

Softness. Motherhood. Nurturing. Beauty. Grace.

And while femininity can absolutely exist in those things, we don’t believe it begins and ends there.

Femininity is not defined by whether or not you want children.
It is not measured by your body, your breast size, your relationship status, or how “soft” the world perceives you to be.

Some women are gentle and quiet.
Some are outspoken and resilient.
Some are nurturing by nature.
Some are fiercely independent.
Some feel most feminine in lace and silk.
Others feel most like themselves in oversized sweaters, bare faces, and messy buns.

None of those things make a woman more or less feminine than another.

To us, femininity lives somewhere much deeper.

It’s in the strength you’ve built over decades of living.

It’s in the wisdom earned through experience — not just the easy lessons, but the painful ones too. The ones life places in front of you over and over again until something inside you changes and grows.

It’s in surviving heartbreak.
Starting over.
Learning boundaries.
Finding your voice.
Rebuilding your confidence after losing pieces of yourself.

It’s in the way women hold space for one another.

The friendships that feel like safety. The quiet encouragement. The shared understanding. The conversations that heal parts of us we didn’t even realize were hurting.

Femininity is empowering younger women instead of competing with them.
It’s celebrating another woman’s beauty without questioning your own.
It’s embracing women who are completely different from you and understanding that there is no singular “right” way to be feminine.

There is incredible power in womanhood when we stop trying to fit ourselves into one definition.

Because femininity is not one thing.

It is soft and strong.
Tender and resilient.
Quiet and powerful.
Messy and beautiful all at once.

And perhaps the most feminine thing of all is allowing yourself — and other women — the freedom to simply be who they are.

At Cherchez La Femme, we believe femininity belongs to every woman in her own unique way. Not because of what she looks like, what she wears, or the roles she fills for others, but because of who she is underneath it all.

Complex. Evolving. Human.

And worthy exactly as she is.
